Valtakunnallinen pohjaeläintietojärjestelmä sisältää vesiviranomaisten ja julkisen valvonnan alaisten vesitutkimuslaitosten pohjaeläinseurannoissa ja tarkkailuissa tuottamia pohjaeläinaineistoja sisä- ja rannikkovesistä. Lisäksi järjestelmään voidaan tallentaa myös muiden tahojen tekemien pohjaeläintutkimusten tuloksia.
