The Lilja insect collection comprises insect specimens collected by Ilkka Lilja. The collection contains 111 specimens, of which 65 have been identified to taxon. In addition to Lilja, Karri Jutila contributed to the identification of specimens. The collection represents 18 different families. The specimens date from 1950, and most were collected in the Pori area of Satakunta, western Finland. The collection also includes specimens from Turku in Southwest Finland.
Ilkka Lilja worked as a teacher of biology and geography in the Satakunta region of Finland. From an early age, he was an enthusiastic birdwatcher and ornithologist. In 1959, Lilja and a group of friends gathered at his home and founded the Pori Ornithological Society (Porin Lintutieteellinen Yhdistys, PLY), for which he served as chairman for several years. PLY was the first local ornithological society established in Finland.

Liljan hyönteiskokoelma sisältää Ilkka Liljan keräämiä hyönteisnäytteistä. Hyönteiskokoelma pitää sisällään 111 näytettä, joista 65 on määritetty. Liljan lisäksi määrittäjänä on toiminut Karri Jutila. Kokoelma sisältää 18 eri heimoa. Näytteet ovat vuodelta 1950 ja suurin osa Satakunnasta Porin alueelta, mutta näytteitä löytyy myös Turusta Varsinais-Suomesta.
Ilkka Lilja toimi biologian ja maantieteen lehtorina Satakunnassa. Ilkka oli jo nuorena innokas lintuharrastaja. Vuonna 1959 Ilkka ja ystävät kokoontuivat Ilkan kotiin ja perustivat Porin Lintutieteellisen Yhdistyksen (PLY), jossa Ilkka toimi puheenjohtajana useana vuonna. PLY on Suomen ensimmäinen lintutieteellinen paikallisyhdistys.
