Luonnontieteellisen keskusmuseon selkärankaiskokoelmissa on noin 140000 näytettä. Näytteet ovat pääosin Suomesta, mutta myös eri puolilta maailmaa. Lintuja on kokoelmassa on noin 42000, nisäkkäitä 53000, matelijoita ja sammakkoeläimiä 3000 ja kaloja 6000. Selkärankaiskokoelmaan kuuluu myös linnunmunakokoelma, jossa on noin 39000 munapesyettä tai yksittäistä munaa.
